Dr. Aimee Hammer, PhD
Pediatric Neuropsychologist

Dr. Aimee Hammer believes that understanding how a child's mind works is one of the most powerful gifts a family can receive. She specializes in evaluating children and young adults, ages 5 to 25, navigating questions around autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disorders, giftedness, and intellectual disability. Her goal is never just to generate a diagnosis. It's to help each family walk away with a clear, usable picture of their child's strengths and vulnerabilities, one that opens doors to the right support, accommodations, and advocacy.

Dr. Hammer grew up in Arizona and is deeply committed to serving the families and communities of the state she calls home.

She earned her PhD at Kent State University, completed her clinical internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and finished a two-year fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at Indiana University School of Medicine. She is currently board eligible and working toward board certification in neuropsychology.

For the past three years, Dr. Hammer has practiced at Phoenix Children's Hospital, where she works within a specialized medical neuropsychology team evaluating children facing serious medical conditions such as pre-surgical epilepsy, transplant, cancer survivorship, and genetic and congenital conditions. She also serves as Education Chair for the Division of Neuropsychology, leading its didactic training series, and supervises practicum students beginning their own path into the field.

Dr. Hammer's approach centers on therapeutic assessment: the idea that testing itself, not just the report that follows, can be an opportunity for insight and growth. Rather than treating an evaluation as something done to a child, she works to make it something a family goes through together, walking away not only with answers but with a deeper understanding of how their child learns, thinks, and experiences the world. That understanding becomes the foundation for real advocacy, at school, at home, and in the years ahead.

Outside the office, Dr. Hammer cherishes time with friends and family. She and her partner enjoy traveling together, and their home is anchored by two dogs, a German shorthaired pointer and a Vizsla, who keep life full and active.
